Homesmith Group is based in Manhattan Beach, serving the state of California. We buy houses from property owners in the Southern California counties of Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura (and surrounding areas).
Founded in 2005 by Ohio native and long-time California resident Barry Smith, Homesmith Group is a locally owned business that aims to provide win-win solutions to help homeowners get out of their sticky situations… like foreclosure, owning a burdensome property, probate or inherited property, divorce, job transfer, major repairs, or any number of other reasons.
Homesmith Group can pay all cash and close quickly, so there is no waiting for a buyer to qualify for traditional financing. We can buy “as is” for a fair price and can close on the date that works best for you, even if it is tenant occupied or vacant.

About Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles
The overwhelming need for housing in our communities has provided Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) with a unique opportunity to change lives in our local Los Angeles county neighborhoods.
Los Angeles ranks as one of the least affordable housing areas in the U.S. and yet Habitat for Humanity is one of the few – if not only – affordable home ownership programs that serves families and individuals earning 30-80 percent of the median family income.
Cost burden and overcrowding are the most serious problems experienced by very low-income area Southern California residents.
Working with volunteers, families and individuals, corporations, congregations and donors Habitat LA is able to tackle this important housing issue throughout greater Los Angeles.
Habitat LA is dedicated to making homeownership possible for low-income, hardworking families and individuals.
Hand Up, not a Hand Out!
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles offers a hand up, not a hand out. With the support of community partners, donors and volunteers, Habitat LA constructs new or renovates existing homes alongside Habitat Partner Homebuyers.
In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest Sweat Equity hours building their future Habitat home and the homes of other Habitat Homebuyers. Habitat homes are sold to Partner Homebuyers at no profit and financed with affordable loans.
Since 1990, Habitat LA has built and rehabilitated more than 500 houses in neighborhoods all across greater Los Angeles. Shelter is a basic human need and Habitat for Humanity strives to achieve its goal of eliminating substandard housing by making decent, sustainable and affordable housing a reality for all.
Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles educates volunteers and interested community members of all ages on how important it is to give back.
Habitat LA believes everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live and everyone is welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people.
Be a part of the fun… volunteer at a Habitat For Humanity near you!
Habitat LA Presents Keys
Habitat LA has presented a set of keys to the new owners of a newly built or rehabilitated home in Los Angeles since 1990, but not until they finished their own work on the property.
As part of the program, Habitat Homebuyers must be willing to partner with Habitat LA by completing:
- 200-500 Sweat Equity hours;
- A HUD-certified pre-purchase homebuyer education workshop;
- Habitat LA’s Habitat Homebuyer Investment Program.
Get Involved In A Habitat For Humanity Near You!
Homesmith Group proudly participates on the Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ marketing and communications committee, as well as in home builds and other committees and activities.
Thousands of Volunteers are the heart of the Habitat LA program who lend a hand in home building and rehabilitation, and there are many ways to get involved. Those volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to the donation of financial support, building materials, trade skills, lunches, etc.
Our company encourages individuals and groups to support this worthy organization in any way possible.

“On behalf of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) and the families we serve, thank you for your Fund-A-Need, in support of our 2020 Los Angeles Builders Ball®. We are incredibly grateful to have such amazing supporters like you. Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to exponentially increase our capacity to make a real and transformative impact on our community. As I mentioned during the event, this year marks our 30th Anniversary. Two of the most exciting milestones are the completion of our 1,000th home in May 2020 and the groundbreaking of our 1,001st home in Long Beach next month. Your contribution helps to enhance the qualify of life in entire neighborhoods where we are making concentrated investments and building strategic partnerships to create lasting change. We could not have accomplished any of these milestones without your help. Your commitment to our mission, as evidenced by your generosity, is how we have been able to serve so many in need.”
